Movement

MOVEMENT

Movement has always been an essential part of my personal practice. My training as a dancer and aerialist has informed my style and interest in functional, joyful, energetic and flowing forms of movement. My yoga style is a mix of these influences which combine vinyasa flow sequencing, fluid movements and strength based postures which originate from my pilates trainings. My sessions are a fusion of all these styles and aim to cultivate flexibility, space and body awareness. Tailored to your needs and interests, my hope is that these sessions invite you to find more curiosity and knowledge in your body and cultivate an inner sense of listening.

I also offer a more contemplative practice of Yin yoga practice followed by yoga nidra. Yin yoga consists of slower postures which are held for sustained periods of time. Working with the Meridian system in the body, they are linked to the organs in the body. The sequencing of the postures aim to aid tension and stagnation in these energy pathways. This is a great practice for slowing the mind and quietening the nervous system. I then follow this with a deeply activating and relaxing yoga nidra, created specifically to work to your unique personal situation.

I completed my initial 200 hour teacher training with Yoga London in 2012 and then went on to take a 300 hour training with Meghan Currie and Exhale Yoga retreats in Nicaragua 2016. I am a pregnancy yoga teacher and studied with the wonderful Uma Dinsmore - Tulli and Lisa White. I have completed Insight’s Yin yoga training level 1 with Sarah Powers. I qualified in Yoga Nidra studying under Tanis Fishman. For more info about me and my trainings please click below. I have been practicing yoga for over 10 years and am a 500 hour RYT yoga alliance accredited instructor.

YOGA STYLES

Leyla offers yoga one to one sessions, group, corporate and retreats.

Vinyasa flow yoga - Vinyasa, is a breath initiated practice, that connects every action of our life with the intention of moving towards what is sacred, or most important to us. This is created through a sequence of flowing movements; woven like a dance, lead by the breath, shifting through space.

Pregnancy yoga - Gentle fluid movements to honour the changes occurring during pregnancy in the mind and the body. A supportive practice that offers reflection, physical support and preparation and deep relaxation and rest.

Yin Yoga - Yin yoga works deeply into our body with passive, longer-held poses. It targets the deepest tissues of the body, our connective tissues – ligaments, joints, bones, the deep fascia networks of the body and the meridians. 

Yoga nidra - Yoga Nidra is a slowing of the brainwaves bringing the body into total rest state while allowing the mind to be awake and aware. As the brainwaves ease the body into deep relaxation the mind is free to move beyond the known realms of personality, limiting beliefs and constructs to connect with unbounded awareness. 

Meditation - Leyla works with many types of meditation practices from her different studies. She works with breath work (pranayama) , visualisations and journeying. Meditations to create space and inner and outer awareness. Compassion based meditations; inviting the mind to move the awareness on and off key objects or emotions, cultivating the observer or witness consciousness. She also works with deeper energetic journeying and visualisations.

 
 

ONE TO ONE YOGA SESSIONS

Individually tailored one to one yoga sessions last for one hour,  where you will work to balance both your mind and body.

For private sessions you will have an initial meeting and class where you can get a taste of my teaching style and see if it is suited to you. You will then get a chance to talk about to your goals and aims for the yoga sessions, this allows me to create individual sequences of postures that will suit and challenge your body.

MEDITATION

There are many types of meditation such as; mindfulness, focusing the mind on a particular object, thought, or activity. Meditation practice can be used to train attention and awareness and achieve a mentally clear and emotionally calm and stable state.

Meditation can be used to increase awareness of yourself and your surroundings. Many people think of it as a way to reduce stress and develop concentration.

People also use the practice to develop other beneficial habits and feelings, such as a positive mood and outlook, self-discipline, healthy sleep patterns, and even increased pain tolerance.

YOGA NIDRA

Yoga Nidra is the practice of holding awareness in the mind as the body sleeps. The breath acts as a bridge to drive the awareness into specific locations. As the brainwaves slow down you are able to move past superficial belief systems and to rest into the space of your essence. The place of all knowing beyond time and space. 

Yoga nidra involves the body remaining still as the eyes close, but the mind remains awake and aware. We work to cultivate mental agility and expansion as you move through body rotation practices guiding you into different brainwave states. It is here that you are able to move past your programming and hear your true wisdom.

Yoga nidra sometimes known as deep rest and offers a harmonious and restful state From here, we can be healed, restored and awakened to our deepest, all-knowing, all-welcoming self. It works to soothe the nervous system and can be an aid in lowering stress levels.

PREGNANCY YOGA

Pregnancy yoga can be an integral tool to preparing the mind and body for birth. My classes are a mix of soft flowing movements with specific breath work and deep relaxations and meditations to encourage rest and nourishment for both you and your baby.
